Froq doesn't support feature X like product Z does, why is that ?

Froq doesn't try to be a complete database management tool, so you won't find every feature every database supports. Froq tries to be a tool for easy data access, it provides a intuitive fast, easy to use and fun interface. It helps you finding your data and navigating through your data on different and easy ways.

To provide its fast and unique interface, Froq uses some database specific logic and therefore it's driver set is not user extendable.

Froq doesn't support SQLite connections over network shares, why?

SQLite is not designed for use over a network or by multiple users at the same time. Although some locking mechanisms exists to 'lock' a database, none of them work safely over different operating systems, therefore it would easily corrupt your database.

You may be searching for a server-client database model; You might consider using MySQL or PostgreSQL, both free alternatives, using serer-client database models.

So what is 'Connection Info', and when should I reload it?

Connection info, consists of a lot of information, like all table names, all constraints, etc. This is information that Froq uses to provide the fast interface and some of its features. Since this is a lot of information, Froq only loads this the first time you connect as a certain user to a certain database.

Froq automatically checks if this information is still valid (in the background), and automatically reloads it if it is necessary. If you use an Assistant to create or drop an object, Froq also automatically updates this information.

If you desire you can manually refresh this information by selection Reload Connection Info from the Connection menu.

Does Froq run on Windows computers, or will it ever?

No, this is a Mac OS X application, which requires a Macintosh computer to run on. There are no plans for a Windows version.

Although many components have been abstracted in a way so that an alternate version could be build, the features that make Froq a unique and usable application are derived from the Mac OS X environment it is built in.

Didn't Froq stand for ... Oracle something ?

Yes, Froq was originally an acronym for 'For Rapid Oracle Querying', as in the tool for.

Starting with Froq 2.0, however, Froq supports more database types as well. We're keeping the name, but it no longer represents any acronym. The official title now sounds, 'Froq, The Tool For Fast And Easy Database Access' .

Why is Froq no longer distributed as shareware but as a demo?

The shareware version of Froq allowed you to try some of its features for an unlimited time. With Froq 2 this is no longer the case, now you can try every feature of it unrestricted, for a maximum of 25 days.

We feel that a period of 25 days is more than plenty to try out the application and see whether it is something you wish to purchase.

By removing the feature restriction (for example a maximum of 1 document), you can get a full feel of the application and its functions. By no longer distributing it via shareware, you are no longer hindered by restrictions, or periodic messages.

Can I get an extension to the 25 day trial period ?

The short answer is no.

As is stated under 'Why is Froq no longer distributed as shareware but as a demo?'; we believe that a demo period of 25 days, is more than sufficient to try out all of Froq features, and to determine if it is something you would like to purchase.

As an alternative you could ask a friend to install Froq 2 on his / her computer and evaluate the application over there.

How do I install Froq ?

After downloading the Disk-image (a file with the .dmg extension), you double click on it. (Your Safari browser may have opened it for you). When the disk image opens, it displays a license agreement, after carefully reading it, you must click agree to continue.

In the window of the Disk-image you'll see a big Froq icon and Applications Folder icon. Drag the Froq icon on to the Application Folder and your computer will start copying Froq. When the copying is finished, you can eject the Disk-image by selecting Remove Froq from the File menu. Froq has now installed correctly.

Note that before the copying starts you may have to enter you password, to authorize this action.

How do I uninstall Froq ?

Using the Finder locate the Froq application and drag it to the trash. Before doing so make sure Froq isn't running.

You may want to remove some additional Froq support and preference files. Use the Finder to locate the Folder 'Users:YourName:Library:Application Support', in there find the 'Froq' folder and drag it to the trash. Use the Finder to locate the Folder 'Users:YourName:Library:Preferences', in there find file names nl.alwintroost.froq.plist and drag it to the trash.

I have tried Froq 2, but want to downgrade Froq 1, can I ?

Yes you can. However, some settings you have made, like creating connections will be lost and must be re-made when you start using Froq 1. Before installing Froq 1, make sure you uninstall Froq 2 completely from your system, see 'How do I uninstall Froq ?'
